Paper for all dry drawing techniques: soft pastel, charcoal and graphite. This surface is created with finely ground (pH neutral) natural cork applied to a 170 lb. (pH neutral) board and creates a soft sand-like surface.
This is one of my favorite pastel papers ever. Yes, it's expensive BUT it's worth the money. From experience, it can take up to 2 - 4 layers (I use PanPastel and Sennelier Soft Pas... view moretels) without causing any problems. What surprised me was that even with that amount of layers, you can still gently rest your hand on the painted/drawn surface without getting any smudges. It means that the chalk pigment doesn't sit on the surface.
It comes in different colors so you can find the right base color that matches your subject or drawing. It's also thick like cardstock so it doesn't tear easily. One thing though is that if you're the type who likes to blend, blend and blend with your pastels, you're probably going to dislodge the surface and damage the paper real quickly. It has this smooth sandpaper quality to it and if you rub really hard, you end up taking out the gritty part that holds on to the chalk/pigment so you want to be mindful of that.
Haven't tried putting fixative on this or using wet media (markers for base etc.) but from other reviews I've read, it doesn't take well to that.
Overall, this is excellent paper for every pastel lover out there. If the price is too high, just save it for the precious pieces. :) Trust me, you won't regret getting this. view less
