I’ve been trying to find a good paper for me these past months I started doing watercolor studies and finally I found it! I only have experience with a few brands (not necessarily ...view morejournal watercolor pads i.e moleskine, monologue, chu+, canson, fabriano, arches, tokyofinds) but so far this is the paper that suits what I want to do for studies. I really love tokyofinds and fabriano, however, I really like the strength and sturdiness of pentalic’s paper which is really weird because this is also the reason why for some reason I am hesitant to use arches. Let me begin with, "I've only had experience with Moleskine and Halfpan Watercolor Journals".
Pentalic journals are ok for me, I like the paper quality. and the packa...view moreging. However, I am not exactly the most careful person and my journal usually bounces around in my backpack.. (as most of my belongings do). There would also be instances where i try to "flatten" the notebook and it ends up tearing the page off of it. (which never happened with moleskine btw because it is sewed on). Other than that, this paper absorbs water at a rate that is very comfortable to me. Not too quick but it doesn't dry very very slowly either. The paper is soft of like the paper on the Halfpan journals i had and that is a good thing. I absolutely loved the thickness and sturdy nature of the paper even if i practically submerge the thing in water, it doesn't drown out and dry into a perfectly cooked bacon like texture. The paper is cold pressed but not very rough. The size is compact but not overly tiny. I bought the square journal because reasons and it is perfect. Save for a few torn leaves, that gives me additional reasons to use my washi tapes.. This is overall a very good purchase. If the paper doesn't tear off the spine, I'd probably rate it a 5/5. Although, I must admit, a little wear and tear adds to its charm. view less
